Dave Chambers

Photo1034I write bits and pieces of stories, and poems, mostly from my own life experiences. One day one of the pieces will end up being a novel, I’m kind of working on one now, but it’s nothing like my experience of life. Other bits end up in our annual anthologies and various other places like The FED Monthly Challenge.

Examples of my Writing

Three of the pieces are a memoir, in that they happened. The Rescuers a family picnic with a hairy experience for me and a really hairy experience in Encounter with a Rogue Wave which is a fairly accurate description, a bit of a nightmare, but we get past all these things, don’t we? One used a pair of shoes for transport, walking over a small path in North Yorkshire, the other uses a couple of Her Majesty’s Ships and a small part of a journey across the Indian Ocean. Then there’s the ultimate in transport – Shiny Leather Shoes, a Bank Messenger walking around the streets of the City of London on the Wednesday 11th November 1992 looking for a companion for his Lonesome Poppy.

So, sticking to transport. Night Goods is a memoir of a dream. The cutting is real, whistle bend is real, the train is real, the dream put them all together for me. The last is pure fiction, except that in the early seventies when my job saw me driving up the M1 at night I saw some incidents, put several together, and came up with Going for Broke.
